LOS ANGELES (September 12, 2018) — Schools are back in full swing and in recent weeks thousands of youngsters returned to classrooms throughout the Los Angeles area.
The start of the school year also marked the return of the highly acclaimed Ready, Set, Gold! program, which arranges for Olympic and Paralympic star athletes to visit more than 50 LAUSD public schools to educate students about the importance of exercise and to motivate them to adopt healthy habits into their daily lives.
Ready, Set, Gold! is also pleased to announce that The Foundation for Global Sports Development (GSD) has agreed to renew its sponsorship commitment with a generous $75,000 grant for the 2018-19 academic year. GSD has been a major sponsor of the program since 2012.
“We are proud to support Ready, Set, Gold! This outstanding program plays a crucial role of encouraging our youth to lead a healthy lifestyle, and we believe it makes a true impact in the lives of young people,” said David Ulich, GSD president.
For more than 20 years, The Foundation for Global Sports Development has provided funding and guidance to organizations and athletes making a difference in communities around the world.
Ready, Set, Gold! is the only program of its kind in the U.S. and was established in 2006 to address the significant rise in obesity rates among school-age children in Southern California. The non-profit program is chaired by four-time Olympic gold medal swimmer John Naber.
Working closely with international sports federations, generous donors and committed athletes, The Foundation for Global Sports Development promotes sportsmanship, education, fair play and ethics among the world’s youth. The Foundation gives special emphasis to groups and communities that are most in need or most underserved by current programs, including women, minorities and youth in areas where the risk of delinquency is particularly high.
