FitnessGram is just around the corner, so our Ready, Set, Gold! team of Olympians and Paralympians were out in full force this week prepping students for their annual physical fitness test.
Curl-ups and push-ups make up two of the five elements in FitnessGram, so swimmer Rada Owen spent her time at Westport Heights Elementary demonstrating form and technique. By the end of PE class the 5th grade students had it down pat.
Prince Mumba (what a great name!), an 800m specialist who competed in two Olympic Games under the flag of Zambia, knows a thing or two about running, so when he worked out with 5th graders at Foshay Learning Center the emphasis was on stamina and endurance. Prince created an obstacle course in which students sprinted, jumped and hurdled their way to the finish line. You can bet everyone’s heart beat was racing after that!
Once February rolls around and testing begins, we know RSG! students will be the most prepared group in LAUSD.
