Barbara is a two-time Olympian, representing the United States at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City and 1972 Games in Munich. She was a member of the gold medal-winning 4x100m relay team and also won the 100m silver medal at the 1968 Olympics. Barbara is a member of the U.S. National Track and Field Hall of Fame (1968 inductee). She is also a former world-record holder in the 50m, 100m, 200m, and 300m indoors, a 1967 Pan American Games gold medalist in the 100m and a three-time U.S. National Champion.
From 1991-99 ,Barbara was USC’s women’s track and field head coach. In 1996, she helped lead the Trojans to their first ever Pac-10 Championship and became one of the few female coaches to handle both the men’s and women’s sprinters at a major Division I program.
She graduated with a Bachelors Degree and her teaching credentials from California State University, Los Angeles. She is the wife of former UCLA sprint great Warren Edmonson, a 1972 NCAA 100m champion. The couple has two daughters who graduated from USC and won titles on the track team as All Americans.
Ferrell, also known as “Coach E,” is now the head track and field coach at San Marino High School.
