Ready, Set, Gold! Chairman John Naber moderated an Olympian panel discussion Wednesday night as part of month-long activities tied to Olympic Day.
Olympic Day (June 23) is an annual celebration of the birth of the Modern Olympic Games and the ideals of Olympism. Throughout the month of June, various events were held across the country.
Olympians from a variety of sports and years attended the hour-long presentation held at the KPCC studios in Pasadena.
An area of focus for this year’s Olympian Panel conversation was the status of the Olympic Movement due to recent revelations of the abuse of power by coaches and medical professionals, and the future safety of young athletes in training and competition.
The panelists were:
- Wyomia Tyus (Track & Field, 1964, 1968, three gold medals, one silver medal)
- Katherine Starr (Swimming for Great Britain, 1984, 1988, founder of com)
- Alyssa Anderson (Swimming, 2012, gold medal)
Naber won four swimming gold medals and one silver at the 1976 Montreal Games.
Members of the Southern California Olympic Pin Traders Association had items from their collections on display.
