Paralympian sprinter Katy Sullivan is beginning her 7th year in the Ready, Set, Gold! program.
During her introductory visit last Friday at Kingsley Elementary School in North Hollywood, Katy captivated a classroom of some 40 5th graders with an inspiring discussion about overcoming obstacles, setting and achieving goals, and why it is important to always try your hardest.
Katy covered a lot of ground during her 30-minute presentation, such as what is was like growing up with a physical disability, how she got her start in running, and the thrill of representing her country at the 2012 London Paralympic Games.
Katy will be visiting the Kingsley campus four more times during the academic year to lead the youngsters in various exercise activities, while encouraging them to stay physically active and to eat healthy.
Sullivan was a three-time U.S. Champion in the 100m dash and at one time held the American record of 17.33 seconds.
Nowadays, Katy is an accomplished actress and has performed in recent years in a host of plays, films and television shows.
