During Paralympian Angela Madsen’s visit to Venice High School this week, she demonstrated what it is like to play competitive wheelchair basketball. Angela brought in her friends from the Maywood Kodiaks to put on show for the nearly 100 phys ed 9th graders in attendance. Then the students gave it a try, taking turns doing dribbling and shooting drills. Not so easy, huh?
Angela is in her fifth year as a valued member of the Ready, Set, Gold! team, a shining example of someone who has overcome obstacles to achieve great success. A world-class rower, in May 2014, Angela and her rowing partner successfully completed a 2,558-mile journey from Long Beach to Hawaii, spending 60 days at sea, often in extremely perilous conditions. Most people would stop there … but Angela is preparing to replicate the voyage next summer, only this time by herself!
